SayControl

Install

Three steps, once.

It’s a menu-bar app, with no window to keep open.

  1. 1

    Put it in Applications

Open the disk image and drag SayControl into Applications, then open it from there. It’s signed and notarised by Apple, so macOS opens it without a warning, and it updates itself from then on.

  2. 2

With Google or with your email, right in the window. You start on Free: 2,000 cloud words a week, with cleanup and tones, starting again every Monday. Pro is $12 a month for unlimited dictation, command mode and spoken controls, from Settings › Plans. Nothing to paste on either. What the plans include.

  3. 3

    Give it the fn key

Set System Settings → Keyboard → “Press 🌐 key to” to Do Nothing, so holding fn belongs to SayControl. Then grant Accessibility, Input Monitoring and Microphone when it asks.

Coming from Kotha or Open-Wispr?

Same app, new name. Your dictionary, phrases and history move across on first launch. The bundle id changed, so re-grant the three permissions, then drag the old app to the Trash or it keeps answering the same fn key.
